So I said "YES!" to Kid's Ministry. Now what? I have one thing to say. "yeah!" the fact that you've been willing to say "yes", is some a great first step to ministering to children. The rest of the journey can become life-changing for both you and the children whose lives you are going to touch.
To get to know you better, and as one of our policies for kid's ministry, if you could go to the intake page and filll out the form there for kid's church leaders, I would appreciate it. here is the actual page http://kidschurchathope.weebly.com/401/login.php?redirect=/ministry-leader-forms.html and the password is "children". You may want to browse around on this site for awhile, to get a sense of who we are and what we are trying to do, and have done. All the curriculum is also found here on this sight also, so you will want to bookmark it as you will be referring to it often. Our format is quite simple - and follows a 2-week rotation of small group/large group. - with 2 weeks spent on each lesson. The following is an overview of a typical 2 weeks in the life of Kid's Church. week 1: 15 min. small group - (snack and hellos) and then the rest of the time is in the large group - where the topic for the next two weeks is introduced, kids share what they learned, and teaching is brought to the kids on the current topic week 2: 15 min. large group (overview of the bible story - and i ask the question - why does God think it is important for us to know this story? for the rest of the morning on week 2, the kids are in small groups, where you have snack together, you go through curriculum materials, bible verse memorization, you can take them to the gym to play, whatever you feel they need for the time. It's supposed to be a time for building relationships and finding principles to live by. if you guys do something fun or neat that you would like to share with the rest of the group, you can share the following week also. A very valid concern that has often been expressed to me regarding a prolonged commitment to Kid's church, is that it is a long time to be removed from a source of spiritual feeding and input, but i, and many of my leaders, haven't found this an issue. In fact, we often find ourselves on the same page as the adult service when it comes to lessons learned, or the Holy Spirit working in our hearts. it might not be at the same intellectual level, but the Spirit is still the same. i hope that you fiind this to be so for you also, and that these next months will not only be a time where you will find a rewarding time of ministry, but God will minister to YOUR heart also. |
